Last weekend I visited Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant for their Wine Tasting and an appetizer. This is most certainly not my first time going, because it’s so FREAKING amazing. I personally love wine (if that’s not an understatement, then I don’t know what one is). I try to attend every month to check out the monthly wines they are showcasing. It was also date night with my main man. Needless to say, it was a perfect storm for an incredible night.
Due to the fact we showed up for prime time Saturday night dinner, we started with the wine tasting while we waited for our table to be ready. The tasting may take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes depending on how quickly you sip, sip, SIP. It also made sense to have a clean palate while tasting the incredible, flavorful wines.
There are three tastings to choose from: Sweet, Lux, or the monthly choices. The Lux tasting only switches up one wine per month, and the rest stay the same.I have already tried the Lux tasting, and it was one of my favorite tastings so I highly recommend it. The sweet tasting is very sweet. If you are into sweet and light wines, this one is for you! I personally like a variety of wines so I had to try the monthly tastings. Their monthly tasting usually starts with whites then transitions into reds, and ends with dessert wines. You may check out their monthly options online for all tastings here.
Each tasting is paired with crackers to cleanse you palate after each wine they pour. Also you are able to keep track of notes on the handy list they provide which just so happens to have a true description written out for you as a reference. You can write things like I did — “Meh?” and “like it”. Yes I know, these are highly technical terms. It comes with the buzz you acquire after a few wines.
TIP: If you KNOW you will not like a wine or simply don’t care for it, you may ask to substitute it for another wine of your liking! They sure know how to cater for every picky person out there. As you can see above, I opted out of the Riesling for Coopers Hawk Sauvignon Blanc.
Once we finished the 8 tasteful wines, I ended up purchasing their Cooper’s Hawk Red Wine. It’s a perfect red wine for any dinner. It’s not too dry and not too sweet, easy to drink especially if you are just starting to drink reds.
An hour and a half later after a lovely wine sipping, we were called to our table. Perfect timing! We sat down and were greeted with a fluffy, salty pretzel bread and butter. Let’s be honest– who can resist pretzel bread?! While having our hearty bread snack and drinking our post wine tasting wine, we ordered….ready for it?…. a Carne Asada Flatbread with Sliced Skirt Steak, pesto, mozzarella, roasted chili sauce, onions and cilantro. RIGHT? I was drooling by the end of that description too.
All in all, I LOVED it. From the wine tasting, to the pretzel bread, and the appetizer, I would suggest this place to anyone. I would do so for one main reason: variety! Their wines are pleasurable for all types of palates, and their menu is pages and pages long.
