Gym Leg/Glute Day.

Disclaimer: I am NO expert on working out, fitness, or physical training. These are just my opinions and my workouts. I’m simply posting for entertainment.

Leg day is a love and hate type of thing. I love the strength I gain, but I hate the penguin walk that follows 2 to 3 days post workout. It’s just one of those things you gotta do! The great news is that there are so many options for leg exercises that you will never get bored. If you can’t make it to the gym, home workouts or a bike ride are always available.

Below is an overview of the leg and glute workout I will be performing at the gym today. Stay tuned for at home-workouts and more in the future.


Warm up – treadmill & stretch – 10 minutes
Standing Calf Raises 3 sets 15 reps

Deadlifts 3 sets 6 reps

Squat (not weighted) 2 sets 20 reps

Bulgarian Split Squat (each leg) 2 sets 8 reps

Leg curl 3 sets 8 reps

Good Mornings 3 sets 10 reps

Leg extension 3 sets 8 reps

The lower reps should be with a heavy weight. Reps higher than 10 should be a medium to heavy weight. You can decide for yourself what heavy is.

Remember to focus on form. I don’t think there is anything worse than sloppy form. Take is slow and make sure you are doing it RIGHT! If you aren’t sure… ask a trainer. Also, at the end of your workouts…STRETCH. It might hurt, but will feel so good afterwards.

Bar Louie & Strawberry Fields. 

When I first moved down to Florida, Bar Louie wasn’t here. I used to live in Michigan where they had it but I wasn’t old enough to drink yet. Last year, one opened up right down the street from me. How convenient, right? After rave reviews from my friends, I had to try out their cocktails and food which were all apparently “the best I’ll ever have.”

The other week me and Evan made it a dinner date. It was a gorgeous sunny day in Florida and you could tell by the crowd. It was jam packed inside and out on that Friday night. Upon entering, there was a huge sign for a Strawberry Fields Martini. Immediately, I knew what I was ordering after my glass of wine. We sat down outside in the lovely warm weather where we started with an appetizer of Crispy Calamari.

These crunchy, fried squids were scrumptious. And by that I mean, they weren’t only the body rings, but also the legs.  Needless to say, they were very cute and perfectly cooked so they were not tough at all.

With a squeeze of lemon and a dip in their fresh, daily made cocktail sauce…I ate them all up.

After a starter drink of wine and an appetizer, we ordered our meal. Oh and I ordered the Strawberry Fields Martini. I doubt they have it for very long, so if I were you I would rush over there now and order one. They have happy hour from 4-7pm M-F so you have no excuse. Plus, it has strawberry puree mixed, so you get your daily serving of fruits in. I’m pretty sure that’s how it works, so I will count it as a fruit.

Strawberry Fields Forever. Reyka Vodka, Strawberry puree, fresh lime juice, balsamic glaze, basil leaves, pure cane sugar. All fresh and made on the spot. Y U M. 

Sip Sip Sip, It was gone too quick!

Okay, back to the dinner. After all this is my dinner review, right? I ordered the Backyard BBQ burger. While this picture might not do is justice since it was dark out, check out the picture on their website. It seriously looks like the picture…unlike most advertisements.

The burger was juicy, cooked just the way I like it and topped with melted cheddar cheese, barbecue sauce, thick cut bacon, & fried onion strings. Yeah, try saying that with a mouth full of burger…and a side of fries.

Not only was this an amazing dinner but the drinks complemented the meal so well. I will be going back, multiple times, and trying out as much as I can. Bar Louie really ups the ante on creATEive drinks, so I highly recommend venturing from the regular ol’ screw driver and trying their crafted goodies. You can add me to the list of people who will tell you their drinks and food is the “best you’ll ever have”.

Cinco de Drinko with Tacos & Tequila.

Ahhhh, Cinco de Mayo. The Celebration of Mexico’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla. I bet if you asked a well inebriated friend in between shots of tequila or chugging margs, they wont even know why they are celebrating this day…in the United States…when they aren’t even Mexican. This is probably the case for most people going out to “celebrate”. Let’s be real, we all need an excuse to drink so why not commemorate beating the French?

This year Cinco de Mayo falls on a Tuesday which means one thing: Taco Tuesday. I have dinner plans with some friends to hit up the local favorite Mexican place Azteca d’Oro. We have been going there for years and it never fails to amaze me. Once you arrive and are seated they immediately bring out warm and crispy tortilla chips with fresh salsa. Their food menu is endless and their margaritas are fantastic. I typically enjoy the chicken or shrimp fajitas. You receive a heaping portion of grilled meats on top of sauteed green peppers and onions and a side of rice, beans, lettuce, sour cream, cheese, guacamole and pico de gallo with flour or corn tortillas. Everything else I have tasted, from tacos to enchiladas, is quite delicious too! AND my only exception to drinking tequila is their house margarita on the rocks with salt. Even though me and tequila don’t get along, I can’t turn a marg down at Azteca!

              Now back to the food part. TACOS. They are the perfect meal to make for one or one-hundred people and it’s super simple, while being fun. You can also get creative with the toppings or use what you have. Serve them up with a side of chips and guacamole and it’s sure to be a hit. This recipe I’m about to bring you was inspired by fried tortillas. I had left over tortillas from a few nights ago when I had turkey and tofu tacos, so I wanted to use the rest of them up otherwise they would go bad. That happens way to often and I wasn’t about to waste food! According to me, You can fry ANYTHING and it tastes that much better.

Cooper’s Hawk Wine Tasting & Appetizers.

Last weekend I visited Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant for their Wine Tasting and an appetizer. This is most certainly not my first time going, because it’s so FREAKING amazing. I personally love wine (if that’s not an understatement, then I don’t know what one is).  I try to attend every month to check out the monthly wines they are showcasing. It was also date night with my main man. Needless to say, it was a perfect storm for an incredible night.

Due to the fact we showed up for prime time Saturday night dinner, we started with the wine tasting while we waited for our table to be ready. The tasting may take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes depending on how quickly you sip, sip, SIP. It also made sense to have a clean palate while tasting the incredible, flavorful wines.

Almond Joy Coconut Macaroons. 

Tomorrow Evan has Demo Day for his new app at the school he has been attending for three months. It’s his last day! He has been working non-stop, day and night learning how to code and program, and I couldn’t be any more proud.

So of course, in celebration, I wanted to make some treats for when his family comes into town this weekend. I also wanted to make something I haven’t made before. As we all know, it takes practice to make perfect. Not that any dessert or treat that I’ve made tons of times turns out perfect, but at least edible and tastey. With that being said, I totally burnt half of my macaroons! I set the timer on, but half way through I smelled something burning. I ran to the oven to check on the macaroons, and they were just black on the bottom. It was sad to see half of them go, but oh well! As Evan said to me, it’s a glass half full situation, we still have the other not burnt half! And no, I did not take pictures of the burned macaroons. No need to see that kind of destruction.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, so my apologies for the hiatus. I’ve been on this intense career search, and it seems like a lifetime and a half. I always thought I knew what I wanted to do, but I suppose it’s not that simple. I hope it happens soon, I’m going stir crazy around the house. On the bright side, I was accepted into two Masters Programs for Health Care. Overall, a lot has been on my plate and it’s been quite stressful. It seems that my cooking and baking keeps me sane. It’s something I go out to buy, bring home, take time to clean it, bake it, cook it, whatever it might need, then eat it. It’s all up to me, and I love doing it. I get to put in the work, and enjoy the outcome.

Lately I’ve been craving coconut. Anything coconut simply sounds appetizing. Coconut Milk, Coconut water, Coconut flakes… You get the picture. This craving has made me realize how much I’m turning into my dad. He is also a huge fan of coconut and sprinkles it on just about every dessert he has. So with this craving, plus my dads numerous dessert ideas, I was inspired to create a muffin with coconut. Then I asked myself, what taste compliments coconut? Dark Chocolate.
